Anne’s Story

Anne Jacob’s was an 8th grader at Riverside Public School. She had gone to that school for as long as she could remember and had always enjoyed it there very much!

One day a boy named Christopher came up to her and started teasing her about her clothes, at first it hadn’t bothered her but, after a while people started joining him and it upset her very much! Everywhere she would go they would tease her and spread rumours about her until it got so bad that Anne had to start avoiding them! But it was pretty hard for her, since they were all in the same class. She had told her teachers, but they didn’t care and they sure didn’t do anything to stop it!

And it just got a lot worse when her eye doctor said she needed glasses! You see, Anne wasn’t a very pretty girl and didn’t have many friends. But, although she had never admitted it, she always did have a little problem seeing things, so she gave in and had to get a pair of glasses!

And when she went to school the next day the kids in her class pointed at her and started laughing. Anne had just felt a lot worse, she had tried many times to stand up for herself, but somehow they would always just bring her back down again!
She had felt all alone and had wished that someday someone would stand up for her, but they never did! Most of them didn’t even care what happened to her!

And at the end of the school year grad was coming up and everyone had dates! She hadn’t liked anyone in particular but, she had just wished that at least one person would ask her to go with them, but no one did!

When grad had finally come Anne was dressed in a very pretty blue dress. She had felt very beautiful in it, but when she stepped in the gym where the dance was held, she could see that all the other girls had looked much prettier than her. And when they saw her they all smirked and backed away! Anne ran to the bathroom to cry.

2 days later at the end of the school year, she couldn’t wait for the bell to ring. Although she would miss the school, she would defiantly NOT miss her classmates! And the moment the bell rang she raced to the door, but Christopher had blocked her path. She had waited for the torture to begin, but surprisingly he patted her on the back and had said: “I’m sorry, for everything.” And he walked away.

Anne was very surprised but, grateful at the same time and had just wished although she doubted it that high school would be better!

A Day spent with Elizabeth Green!!

It was a beautiful day at the Greens house, the sun was shining the birds were singing and Elizabeth was still fast asleep in her bed…………
“Wake up dear,” said her mother as she gently took off the blanket covering Elizabeth’s head.
“We’ve got lots of work to do, now put on your warm clothes and come join us outside, we’re all busy harvesting the crops!”
“Okay mom, I’ll get ready.” said Elizabeth as her mom left the room. And as usual after she had said her morning prayer she put on her warm clothes and went outside to join her family out in the fields.
“Good morning everyone,” said Elizabeth as she walked towards her family “Is there anything I can do to help??” She asked anxiously.
“Well, you can start by racking the leaves, they’re always getting in the way this time of year!” replied her oldest brother Ralph.
“Of coarse,” she Elizabeth as she grabbed the rake from her brothers hands “whatever you say!!” she said with a big sigh. She had hated racking the leaves but, and somehow she was stuck with it every year.
But although she wouldn’t admit it, fall had been her favourite season of all, and she loved seeing all the different colors of the leaves. But this year everything looked like it came out of a magazine their house especially, with all the different colors of leaves on the trees that surrounded her house, to Elizabeth it looked just magical. But she knew that it would soon be covered with the dreadful snow.
After about 2 hours of working the family all went inside for breakfast and while her mom was preparing the pancakes they all listened to what their father had to say “ Okay everyone listen up” he started “today’s going to be a hectic day so I suggest we all pitch in a bit. First of all this morning I heard it was going to snow in a week so we all have to help with the crops or else we’ll run out of time and not have enough food for the winter.”
“Does that include me??” asked Elizabeth.
“No sweetheart,” her mother replied “you’re only 12 and still not old enough to drive the threshing machine, but I’ll be helping them so I expect you to make us dinner, because I don’t think I’ll have the time is that okay with you??”
“Of COURSE!!” Elizabeth practically screamed “anything for you mom!!”
When they were all done eating their breakfast the men all went outside to continue harvesting the crops while Elizabeth and her mom stayed inside to clean the house up a bit. And by the time they were all done cleaning the house, the church bell rang and it was time for lunch.
“Mom?” asked Elizabeth “the church bell rang do you want me to get something for lunch?”
“Yes dear.” answered her mother “You can get some bread and some dried fruit from the root cellar.”
When Elizabeth got the bread and the dried fruit they all headed to the fields where the men worked.
“Thanks ladies,” said James her second oldest brother “lunch was great! But we should probably get back to work; those crops aren’t going to harvest themselves!”
“You’re right!” said her mother solemnly “Elizabeth dear go start on dinner. The chickens all ready on the kitchen counter so all you have to do is put it in the oven and make us a salad okay”
“Alright mom, I’ll start on dinner” Elizabeth said as she raced off.
And although she wouldn’t admit it she loved cooking and it hadn’t been her first time making a dinner for her family, in fact it had been her 3rd time making dinner for her family and she had enjoyed it very much! But all her attention had been drawn away when her horse gave a big whiney. And suddenly she remembered about the fact that she hadn’t fed her horse in about a day!!! She went into the barn and tried to calm her down with a piece of hay.
“Hey there Margaret don’t be scared,” she said to her horse
“It’s just me Elizabeth; hey you must be lonely in here. Hey I know how about I brush you a bit.”
Elizabeth spent the following 2 ½ hours brushing her horse, when she remembered about the dinner.
“Oh no!!” she said to herself “dinner is in half an hour!!!”
And she raced off to the house. When she got there she darted for the kitchen and put the chicken in the oven as fast as she could, not noticing that she put it on high instead of low. Then she VERY quickly prepared a salad, and she was so proud of herself and decided to take a nap.
15 minutes later Elizabeth woke up to the sound of her mothers yelling, when she looked up all she could see was smoke , then she clicked she had put the oven on high and now if she didn’t take it out very fast the whole house would catch on fire! She was about to take the chicken out of the oven when her mother stepped in. And before she had a chance to say anything Elisabeth said:
“ I’m sorry mom, I left it until last minute and had to rush it all. And I had fallen asleep and hadn’t even noticed that I put the oven on high. Oh Mom PLEASE forgive me!!’
“Of course, I forgive you,” her mother started “ I just aspect you to do as you’re told next time understood!”
“ Yes Mom,” she replied.
“ Good, now go check in the root cellar, there’s a fish in there that your brother caught this morning. We can eat that tonight.”
“Thanks Mom You’re the best!”

The Samurai

The Samurai

The samurai’s existed in Japan around 1100 to 1800. They were well educated and would start their training at the age of 5. They would learn many empty-hand techniques and would learn both wrestling and striking! But unfortunately the amount of skill and training depended on the wealth on their families. And so the sons of unhealthy families would be sent to a village school for basic education while the sons of wealthier families were sent to a special samurai school, and were taught literature, the arts , and military school !

The most important thing they would learn was NEVER to relax or stay focus so they could always be ready for an attack!!

When in battle the samurai used many weapons. They were most well known for carrying two swords: one short called a “ shoto or wakizashi“! “And one long called a “ daito or katana”. At first the swords were straight but the samurais changed it when they saw curved swords were stronger! And by the time the swords were done it could very easily cut through a person dressed in armour!

The samurai’ honour was so important to them that they could easily take their lives when in danger! And so they were presented with a “seppuku” knife
(word meaning suicide) and were to proceed to cut open their stomach from left to right!! But it was not done alone one samurai would stand behind the one committing “seppuku” and behead him finishing the job!!!

Ninjas

Ninjas

The origin of the ninjas were dated back to ancient China, where they fought. Most ninja families lived in the mountain areas where they could train in secret. They started their training at the age of about 4 or 5. And would learn techniques of empty-hand combat, escape techniques, disguise and how to use a smokescreen to help them get close to and destroy their enemies.

But, the ninjas also used weapons like the shuriken, shuko and the kyotsu-koge all used for killing. They were also very stealthy, hints the name "art of stealth" and were always ready for attack.

But unfortunately the ninja's skills were't needed and the population decreased, and in modern Japan there aren't anymore ninjas. But,a few martial arts students devote their lives to ninjutsu, so be careful because you never know when you can come by a ninja!!!

In 1980 they released the PAC-Man game, it was a number 1 best selling arcade game of all. It was designed when a person looked at a pizza missing a slice and decided to make a video game from it.

Here are some reasons why you should play this game:

- It's not very violent and is intended for all audiences!!

The Spider

The Spider

There are over 35,000 types of spiders species found in the world. They are all different shapes and sizes; some for example can grow to be as large as a dinner plate while others can only grow to be the same size as a head of a pin! Generally most spiders eat frogs, lizards, insects and sometimes even small birds and they mostly hunt at night.

But just like any other animal spiders all have different hunting methods; the net-throwing spider for example hangs up-side down on a leaf waiting for an insect to come by for it to throw the web over it while the web-spinning spider delivers a deadly bite into it’s prey sending the inside of it’s prey into a watery substance. There are also other spiders like the Australian spider that is the most deadly spider in the world. But not all spiders are poisonous; some are just scary looking and may be harmless.

Most spiders live in forests, grasslands, caves, fresh water and sometimes even your home!!! But, be careful because although they have poor eyesight they have an excellent sense of smell, so you never know which are dangerous and which are not!!!!!

The constrictor

Constrictors

A constrictor is a snake mainly found in the forests of Africa, Asia, Australia and the pacific islands. It is a fairly large animal and can get up to 10m long. They are pretty good swimmers and can eat animals twice their size. After they had a fairly good meal they can go up to 2 weeks without eating. Although they may look vicious they are not poisonous animals and only attack humans when they have no other options .

The Wolf

To a Wolf teamwork means woking as a team to attack an animal for them to eat.

The Hyhena

To a Hyhena teamwork means working as a team to hunt.

The Lion

To a Lion teamwork means hunting in their pride to find food.

The Leopard

The leopard is an animal commonly found in the forests of Africa and Asia. It is a fairly large animal and can weigh up to 140 pounds, and can get up to 2 metres long when fully grown. The leopards diet consists of mainly rodents, monkeys, birds, fish, reptiles and wild pigs. It mainly hunts and night but, when hunting in the day the leopard will often bring it's prey into a tree for safe keeping from other animals.

The leopard spends most of it's time in trees to keep away from carniverous animal such as lions and hyhenas that are down below. But, the only time you will see them out of trees is when they're either hunting or if it's mating season. A female leopard can have 2 to 3 cubs at a period of 3 months. The male leopard will then leave leaving the female leopard to take care of it's cubs.

The leopards are infact the strongest and most intelligent out of all the big cats.

And although leopards are highly sensitive they can be very viscious when need be.

Dear Diary December 8, 1589

I’ve just gotten back from our “Order of good cheer” party and it was great! My friend Robert was the host and he was determined to make his party the best. And so he made us a feast of moose, duck and goose. It was really good especially the beavertail that her served with it. Beavertail had been extremely hard to find in the winter but, still Robert seemed to have pulled it off.

Afterwards he played us the violin and everyone seemed to like it. We then watched the plays and everyone sang along, and we all had a marvellous time. By the end of the party everyone
(including me) was half asleep. But before I left I thanked Robert for the lovely party and walked off to my room.

Dear Diary July 2, 1608

This morning when I went into the forge and workers lodge to see how everything was going I heard Duval, the ringleader speaking some of the men about me. As I listened more closely I could hear him saying that he was going to kill me at our next meeting!

The moment I heard that, I walked quietly ( as not for them to hear me) to my friend Robert. I told him about what I had heard and asked him for some advice. He told me to wait until tomorrow so we have evidence that Duval wanted to kill me, and right as her was coming closer to me Robert would grab him and I will decide his punishment.
But, that night I lay awake thinking about what would happen next.

Dear Diary July 3, 1608

Today was a hectic day!! I was at our meeting when Duval came. He acted completely normal, and didn’t even walk towards me immediately, he had only walked towards the guys that he had worked with. I was completely stunned and although I wasn’t quite over the fact that he wanted to kill me I still kept a close eye on him.
After about 20 minutes when nothing had happened I decided to relax I bit. But when Robert came by , and pointed to Duval’s back pocket I noticed that he had a knife in his pocket. Suddenly I became more alert, I saw every little move that Duval did, and I didn’t take my eyes off him.

Suddenly I heard a loud Crash and when I look up again I noticed that Duval was gone. And the next thing I knew, Duval was behind saying “ say your prayers”. But, before her had a chance to pull out his knife I jumped out my chair and Robert grabbed Duval.
That night Duval was hanged and the men who helped him were sent to France in chains!!!

Surprise!

Surprise!

"Good morning," said Abbey as she walked towards her friends. " Hi Abbey," said her friend Cathy "we were just talking about our math test on Thursday, man do I hate math!!"

"So do I but, what I actually wanted to say was that today is October 10 and you know what that means..."

" Today is the grand opening of pizza hut?" asked Suzie. "No, today is my..."

Ding Dong Ding Dong

"Better get to class" said her friend Amanda as she, Cathy and Suzie raced off. but, while Abbey was still standing in the middle of the field she wondered if her friends had forgotten her birthday. All of sudden she felt very sad, but slowly walked off to her classroom.

Meanwhile, Cathy , Suzie and Amanda were planning on what to do for Abbey's birthday. they were originally going to have a pool party at Amanda's house but, they thought a surprise party would be even better. So they all agreed to pretend to forget Abbey's birthday so it would be more of a surprise.

" I believe everything is going to work we just have to make sure the time Abbey gets back from dance is 5:45," said Amanda " But, first we have to get to class!"

By the time they were all in the classroom, Abbey kept giving her friends hints that it was her birthday, but when non of her friends had guessed it she felt very neglected. And by the end of the day after non of her friends had even mentioned her birthday, she just wanted to go home.

But, right as she was about to go outside and get into her car, Suzie blocked her path. She asked Abbey if she could help her study for her math test, immediately Abbey said "yes" but regretted it right away. She was about to tell Suzie that she couldn't help her with her with her math test, except it was too late Suzie had already left.

Abbey was still standing in the hall when her mom stepped in and pointed to her watch, she had completely forgotten about her dance class. So she and her mom stepped into their car and drove off.

Meanwhile, Cathy, Suzie and Amanda were all at Suzie's house busy decorating for the party."Do you think we have enough balloons?" asked Amanda curiously. "Well, I just bought a pack of 40 balloons so I think we have enough" replied Suzie."I feel like we're forgetting something," said Cathy "are you sure everythings ready for Abbey?"

"Well, we did decorate the house, buy food, rent a movie and buy presents for Abbey so I don't see the problem"replied Amanda."You're probably right, so where are we going to put the presents for Abbey?" asked cathy " you did bake a cake didn't you?"

It turned uot that non of the girls had made a cake for Abbey and suddenly the all went into panic mode."How could we forget to bake a cake!" Amanda practically screamed. " What are we going to do?" asked Cathy anxiously. "Hey, I just remembered my mom just made a batch of cupcakes this morning, we can use them instead of a cake!" said Suzie. "Good idea Suzie, go decorate the cupcakes and we'll finish up here." said Amanda.

By the time Suzie had finished the decorating the cupcakes the doorbell rang and the girls got behind the couch. "Suzie can I come in?"asked Abbey. "The doors unlocked" said Suzie.

When Abbey stepped in the room all three girls jumpaed out from behind the couch and yelled.... SURPRISE!

And before the girls had a chance to explain what had happend Abbey had already clicked: they had thrown her a surprise party. And suddenly out of the blue Cathy came up to Abbey and said: " we're sorry we pretended to forget your birthday we just thought it would be more of a surprise. do you acept our appology?"

"Well, of coarse!" said Abbey as she rushed towards her friends. "You guys are the best!!!"
